At the parsonage of Our Favorite Family, some caterers are walking about the kitchen, storing some cooking materials for the wedding reception for Simon and Rose. Annie and Eric talk about the fight that Simon and Rose had the previous evening, and still wonder if they are going to go through with it if they had such a row so close to the wedding. The parents then realize that the Kinkirks have been uncharacteristically quiet since they found out the sex of their new baby. Eric wonders if Kevin's disappointed because he's not going to have the boy he was hoping for. Annie says they simply don't know and that Kevin had said he'd be okay no matter what sex his unborn child was. They then speculate that Matt and Sarah are hiding a secret: They're pregnant too.

Simon comes downstairs. He apologizes to his parents for what happened the previous night. He says Rose's apprehensions turned out to be false: It was stress and she isn't pregnant after all. He insists he still wants to get married to Rose and that he will, later that day. As Simon walks out, Eric flashes back to where he came up to the then empty and undecorated attic, where Simon was looking in the backyard and waiting for a dog -- the dog he so desperately wanted -- to show up. Eric tried to tell him not to get his hopes up and that sometimes people didn't always get what they wanted. In the present, Eric declares that Simon isn't sure what he wants. Annie says she suspects the same is true about Rose.

The opening credits show all seven children, as well as Rose, Sandy and Happy.

Matt comes home to an empty kitchen and sneaks into the kitchen, wanting to grab a sandwich. He piles on some cold cuts on bread and slaps on the mayonnaise, recoils at the smell of the sliced cheese and puts it back and is about to dig in for a bite. He looks out the back door when Eric walks in. Eric calls down Annie while Matt lets Sarah in. Sarah is pregnant after all. After hugs all around, Annie expresses her surprise that her son and daughter-in-law showed up. Matt and Sarah reply that since Simon and Rose were willing to work about their graduation, they felt they had to return the favor. Eric says he can't believe that the next day, he'll have to address them as the "Doctors Camden." Sarah corrects Eric, saying it's "Dr. Glass" because she kept her maiden name but never told anyone except Matt and the medical school. The couple then mentions they know what Simon and Rose must be going through since they were very nervous when they got married. Eric quickly asks if that was the elopement or the "wedding" they staged for the community. Sarah concedes that Matt is still a bit angry that she released Ruthie from her promise to keep their getting eloped a secret before asking him if it was okay; but that with exams and the news she was pregnant she just couldn't stand holding it in any longer. Matt and Sarah then say that they were going to keep the sex of their baby a secret -- since Jewish tradition dictates that even the parents aren't supposed to know until the actual birth -- but that since Kevin and Lucy are going to make the announcement, they're going to as well anyway.

This prompts Eric to have another flashback, when Matt and Mary were going to have a "practice" first kiss and almost did when they were caught by Eric. They insisted it wasn't what it looked like. In the present, Annie instinctively knows that's what Eric is thinking about. He says he thinks that may have been the moment when Mary's life took a turn for the worse -- not when she and her basketball teammates trashed the gymnasium at Kennedy High School. Annie notes that Carlos is coming into town, but can't figure out why Mary isn't. Sam and David come downstairs. They're all dressed up to go. Annie points out it's still too early to be wearing the tuxedoes, then tells them to wash off the moustaches that Ruthie painted on the previous evening. The twins reply they can't -- they've tried everything. Umberto, meanwhile, is having another pep talk with Rose. He insists there is still time to call off the wedding and asks her to back out -- asking her if she can give a secret signal when she's on the altar so he can stand up and object when Eric gets to the "Speak now or forever hold your peace" part. Rose insists she's not backing out now after she and Simon worked things out, yet again. Umberto kisses her one last time and leaves. Rose practices a whistle -- unconvincingly.

Simon is talking about the coming day with Kevin over at the Kinkirk residence. He feels like it's he going bungee jumping -- he's hurling into danger like there's no return, but the chord is there to hold him up to safety. Back at the parsonage, Lucy talks to Annie while the mother desperately tries to wash off David and Sam's body paint. They ponder if one or both of them should try to talk to Rose and convince her to back out before it's too late.

Meanwhile, Simon and Kevin hear a knock at the door. To their surprise, it's Heather Kane, the Camdens' deaf friend and the once on-and-off again girlfriend of Matt. She says that after a nasty run-in with Sarah two years before, they have become friends and still remains in touch with Matt. Simon immediately apologizes for not having invited her, that she totally slipped his mind from the guest list he and Rose were preparing. She says that's okay, and gives him a present: A photograph of a very young Simon and Happy when she was just a couple of years old. Simon remembers when he finally got Happy and let Ruthie name the dog; and that right after Matt told him to keep a secret because he knew why Happy was happy -- it wasn't a he but a she and that she was pregnant. The conversation is joined by Lucy, who recalls how Matt stopped her getting married to a two-timing jerk, then the next year almost married her himself when she backed out at the last minute. Heather says she's in no position to give advice to Simon about what he should do, since she got burned twice at the altar and then married someone else only to get divorced.

Lucy can't believe that Matt's back in town. After she, Simon and Matt share a group hug, she says she's not sure if the family can take any more surprises that day. Simon then says that he's sure everything is going to be fine, but suddenly starts to get cold feet again. Lucy begs her older brother to give him the same kind of pep talk that he gave her on her wedding day. Matt tells Simon he should let go of his jitters and get married, but Lucy says that he shouldn't go ahead with it unless he's absolutely sure he wants to spend the rest of his life with a woman he is sure that he loves; because if he has doubts now, it will not bode well for the marriage down the road whether it's in a week, a month, a year or even longer than that. She then drops the pretense and says flat out she thinks that her brother likes Rose but doesn't love her. Simon replies he does love her, but ... and gets stuck. Matt and Lucy repeat the word, "But?"

At the church, Rose is getting into her wedding gown, without the veil. Sarah walks in. Rose is deciding whether to let her hair hang down or to tie it up, saying that her mother told her to do it one way but she wants to do it the other and that she doesn't want to disappoint her. Sarah replies that Rose should meet Rosina -- that she objected to Matt at first because he isn't Jewish. All that matters, Sarah says, is how Rose really feels about Simon and that other people's opinions don't matter. Rose then offers Sarah a gift -- a string of pearls. Sarah says she can't accept it, but Rose insists. She says that the first year after her parents divorced, each sent her a string of pearls without telling the other. This happened a second year, when they forgot about what they gave their daughter the previous year. When it happened a third year, Rose just broke down. She says she wants to give them away so she can let go of her past. Another string goes to Lucy, who asks Rose if she's still in love with Umberto and at the same time is trying to be coy about the sex of her baby and also if Rose's mother is upset because she managed to plan the wedding all by herself without any help or input from either of her parents. A third string goes to Annie. She relates the conversation she had with Rose's mother the previous evening. Rose asks Annie if Simon really wants to marry her.

Umberto walks into Eric's office. The minister says that everyone pretty much knows that Rose's "other man" still loves her and wants to marry her. Umberto says he broke it off the first time because he was way too young and was worried if she was just playing games with him. He asks Eric if he really wants Rose and Simon to get married. Eric admits that at the very least he wishes Simon would wait a little longer. He then asks if Simon has gotten a wedding band, noting that it's a family tradition that all the men wear bands inscribed with the words, "You bring out the best in me." Umberto says that Rose is the one that brings out the best in him and asks Eric to stop the wedding. Eric replies that he can't.

Eric does, however, want to talk to Simon; but Annie tells him it's too late. Eric still wants to wait a few more minutes to think things over. He wonders how the day is going to proceed. He imagines that Simon and Rose get to the part where Eric asks them if they want to get married until "Death us do part." Simon recoils at the word "death." Rose points out that it's only until death separates one from the other; but Simon chickens out and says he can't go through with it. Annie says she sees it differently: Rose backs out, saying she's embarrassed herself and Simon by taking it this far but she can't follow through. She wants to finish college, and sees that she's making the same mistake her parents made over and over again; getting married for the wrong reasons then divorcing. She and Simon forgive each other for being less than honest with each other and kiss anyway. Eric and Annie dismiss that, and come up with a third theory: Just as Eric is about to pronounce Simon and Rose husband and wife, Mary runs in screaming at them to stop. They should not make the same mistake that she and Carlos did and that there's a whole world out there to be seen, to take advantage of what it has to offer, then go about making mistakes. Annie quickly says that Mary is smarter than that; that she isn't coming anyway and besides, it's time to face the music. Eric replies, "I'd go anywhere with you, babe." As they walk out of the office and toward the sanctuary, they flashback to when Annie was teaching herself how to work on the plumbing. Eric said the same line -- "I'd go anywhere with you babe" -- and made love right under the kitchen sink.

Hours later, the whole gang and their guests are gathered at the reception. Paul, the man Ruthie met at the reception dinner, took a night off so he could be with her again. He offers to help Ruthie wash off Sam and David's makeup with a trick his mother taught him -- nail polish remover. Carlos show up, without Mary. He was worried that Rose and Simon might have come up with some unusual vows. He announces that Mary couldn't make it to the wedding but has promised to show up at Matt and Sarah's graduation the next day. With the group gathered, Sarah and Matt make their announcement: They're having twin boys. Lucy is in shock, and announces she and Kevin are having twin boys as well. This in turn surprises Carlos, and he accidentally lets out the news he and Mary have gotten back together and are having twin girls. Mary calls Carlos on her cell phone, instinctively knowing he let the cat out of the bag before they agreed; but he says he couldn't help himself after hearing Sarah and Lucy's good fortune. Mary says that at the very least they should save their other surprise; Mary went back to school and is graduating from university that weekend herself.

Simon and Rose have the first dance, as a fat lady sings "Embraceable You" to a live band. Simon is replaced by Rose's father. As Simon steps aside, Rose's mother takes him aside. She thanks him for the last couple of days and says that, although they may not see each other again, she still loves him. Rose's father is replaced at the dance by Umberto. Eric and Annie note they look great together and they want to get married. As everyone else joins in on the dance floor, Sandy shows up with Aaron. Noticing that Rose is dancing with someone else, Simon says that he and Rose never even entered the sanctuary -- they both got cold feet. Sandy then draws him closer, holds her son close to her chest, and tells Simon that they need to talk.

The final scene shows all the members of the Camdens both in the present and when it all began, as Roy Orbison's "Anything You Want" plays in the background. In the present, everyone is still dancing, while Simon is in disbelief at the news Sandy has for him. FADE TO BLACK.

*ebenfalls kopfschüttelnd das Weite such*
