Biography:
Award-winning commercial and music video director McG made his feature film directorial debut with "Charlie's Angels" in 2000, and he is currently working on the movie's sequel. He began his career as a still photographer, shooting musicians and other friends in local bands. Forming the record label G Recordings in 1993, he hooked up with the band that would become known as Sugar Ray, and went on to work with the group as both producer and songwriter. McG received the Pop Video of the Year Award from the Music Video Production Association for directing the music video for Sugar Ray's "Fly," a song that he also co-wrote.
McG has directed nearly 50 music videos, including Sugar Ray's "Every Morning," Fastball's "The Way," Smash Mouth's "All Star" and "Walkin' On the Sun" (which received Billboard's Pop Video of the Year Award), Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" and The Offspring's "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" and "Why Don't You Get a Job." He has also helmed videos for such diverse artists as Mase, Korn, Everclear, Wyclef Jean, Spacehog, Sublime and Cypress Hill, and has directed longform documentaries for both Korn and Sugar Ray.
The director has also been recognized for his work in commercials for such clients as Major League Baseball and Coca-Cola. For The Gap, he directed a memorable ad featuring khaki-outfitted country line dancers stepping in time to Dwight Yoakam's interpretation of the Queen hit "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." The commercial received the top prize at the 1999 London International Film Festival.
Born in Kalmazoo, Michigan, McG grew up in Newport Beach, California. He attended the University of California at Irvine, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in psychology.
