Gilmore Girls News-Thread

---->Fans happy about 'Gilmore Girls' romance
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LOS ANGELES -- Longtime fans of the WB series "Gilmore Girls" have expressed delight that the gruff coffee shop owner Luke portrayed by actor Scott Patterson has finally started a romance with Lorelai, played by Lauren Graham.
Fans are curious about something more personal when they stop Patterson on the street.
"They want to know primarily if we're dating in real life," Patterson told reporters on Saturday, "and I always tell them we are."
Not true.
The characters' transition from friends to lovers has caused some changes on the set, however.
"Altoids," Patterson said. "A lot more Altoids."<----
Warum dauert es also diesmal so lange? Ist das ein gutes oder schlechtes Zeichen?
Viele Grüße
Kerstin aus Berlin

Ist kein schlechtes Zeichen.
Und ein kleiner Artikel:
'Gilmore' Girl Compares 'Idol' to Nazis, Fall of Poland
'Gilmore' Girl Compares 'Idol' to Nazis, Fall of Poland
Gilmore Girls Executive Producer Amy Sherman-Palladino had some choice words for ratings behemoth and time-slot rival American Idol at a WB TCA panel for her show Saturday. (Both shows air Tuesday at 8 p.m.)
"American Idol is like the Nazis marching through Poland," she said. "You just got to let them go. Get out of the way. We're kind of France going, 'You know, just don't burn down Paris, that's all we're asking.'"
Asked by one of her shows' co-stars, Lauren Graham, if that was really the analogy she wanted to go with, Sherman-Palladino responded that's how she looked at it.
Sherman-Palladino's co-executive producer (and husband) Daniel Palladino piped up with his own joke about homicidal political regimes: "We tried to slip some dioxin into [American Idol creator Simon Fuller's coffee once, and it didn't work."

Wenn Euch Kelly Bishop nicht ohnehin schon sehr sympathisch war, sollte sich das spätestens jetzt ändern!

Concerning animals: She's acting on her convictions

BY JOAN LOWELL SMITH FOR THE STAR LEDGER
MAYBE YOU'VE SEEN her on "Gilmore Girls" on Channel 11. Or perhaps you saw her in "A Chorus Line" on Broadway, for which she earned Tony and Drama Desk awards for her portrayal of Sheila. Kelly Bishop has also starred in "Six Degrees of Separation" on the Great White Way, appeared in many films, including "Dirty Dancing," plus several soap operas and appearances on "Murphy Brown" and "Law and Order."
The talented performer and her husband, Lee Leonard -- former NBC sportscaster and first talk show host on CNN in 1980, with two Emmys to his credit -- packed up their awards and pets to settle in South Orange in 1995. Since then, Bishop has plunged headlong into companion animal and wildlife issues.
Passion for animals
Draped on a comfy couch in the middle of the couple's spacious living room, surrounded by their three rescued animals, Bishop spoke of her lifelong passion for animals, starting in childhood in Denver.
"I came from a wonderful family. Mom would always bring in strays, have them repaired if they needed it, give them shots and have them spayed and neutered," Bishop recalled. Her mom would find homes for some and keep others. "I've had so many of my own foundlings over the years, I find you can really figure out their backgrounds by their behavior. A dog afraid of feet has probably been kicked. A dog that shies away from men has undoubtedly been abused by a man."
To illustrate the point, Bishop told how the couple acquired Annie, not surprisingly named after the Annie of Broadway fame. "We saw her running towards us (in Manhattan). I yelled at a workman to help catch her when she hid under a car," Bishop said. "He got her out with a push broom." Leonard chimed in: "She never made an aggressive move. She was catatonic from fear."
"Annie still skulks around children and used to be afraid of other dogs," Bishop said of her sweet, rather shy dog, now about 9. When they found her, she was riddled with dog bites. They took the quaking dog to their vet, who pronounced Annie in remarkably good health. At the time the couple's dog Waldo was in rapidly declining health. Rather than traumatize Waldo by bringing Annie into their home, a friend fostered Annie until Waldo died a few months later.
Saving seniors
"I usually adopt older animals. They've had a rough time. I want to give them a good life for whatever time they have left," she said. "That's my reward. When I go into a shelter, I ask myself, 'Okay, now who's been here the longest?'"
Roxy was the exception. When Bishop chose Roxy, a 2-year-old black and white cat, her name was Maya. "We changed it to Roxy after the famous theater in Manhattan, which was one of Lee's favorites," she said. As a result of Roxy's adoption from Jersey Animal Coalition, the couple has become involved in the group's fund-raising activities to build a shelter in South Orange, attending fund-raisers and serving as celebrity co-hosts.
The third member of the menagerie is Harry, a blind bona fide senior citizen at 15. They're wild about Harry, also black and white. "We're about his fifth owners, so we kept his name," Bishop explained. "He was a New York cat who kept getting shifted around. The last one said her boyfriend was allergic. The boyfriend won out. I'd have dumped the boyfriend," she said with a hearty laugh.
Team player
Bishop has broadened her scope by joining the Governor's Domestic Companion Animal Council. She's actively involved with the Humane Society of the United States and its support of the Animal Friendly license plates designed by "Mutts" cartoonist Patrick McDonnell of Edison. Nina Austenberg, regional HSUS director, spoke of Bishop's involvement: "Kelly Bishop's activities on behalf of the license plates, which fund the state Animal Population Control Fund, guarantee that thousands of new plates will be sold." Most of the $50 fee for the plates is directed to the APCF, which provides $20 spaying and neutering of animals adopted through shelters or $10 for pet owners on public assistance. The $50 is only paid once. Renewal is $10. "Animal lovers go the extra mile to ensure the continued success of this innovative program," Austenberg said. "Kelly Bishop is just that kind of person. She's demonstrated this through her actions. DCAC members thank her from the bottom of our hearts." Kelly responded: "Whatever I can do to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets, I will do."
No hunting please
Bishop has strong feelings about hunting. "Call me a zealot, but why is there suddenly a problem in New Jersey with deer? I did my homework looking for solutions. I think it's practical to spay and neuter deer to gradually decrease the population. The Streiter reflector warning system along roads in deer-populated areas does work." The V-shaped reflectors deter deer from roads without hitting the eyes of drivers. Since the reflectors have been in use on South Orange Avenue in South Mountain Reservation, "I've never seen a dead animal on that stretch," she said. "They protect deer and drivers. We have an obligation to watch over the animals. Don't give in to cruelty and kill them. Take up skeet shooting."
Bishop added sternly, "We keep moving in on wildlife. It's human encroachment. If you build your house in the forest, don't whine if you have wild animals in your yard. There's a way to co-exist, and I'm including bears."
Just before we wrapped up the interview, Annie strutted her stuff, performing tricks Bishop taught her. "Dogs need to learn," she said. "It took two years, but I got her to stand on her hind legs, to speak, not because she needs to but because she's bright and wants to please." But Annie is not entering show biz.
When Bishop is taping in L.A., Leonard takes care of the menagerie while working on a book. Before he met Bishop, he had a Lhasa apso that lived 20 years. The couple's marriage has lasted longer than that. They celebrate their 25th anniversary this year. So much for cynics who think show-biz marriages can't last.
