Wie schon letztes Jahr hat ein Bekannter von mir auch dieses Jahr die Möglichkeit bei Screenings die Piloten der großen Studios zu sehen.

Because of the writers strike, things are a little funky this year, but never fear, there's some pretty kick ass stuff going on. So far, I've gone to ABC and Warner Bros. Here's the rundown:
MONDAY - ABC (buena vista/disney)
I must say, this was a REALLY poor showing by ABC. Steve MacPherson even spoke saying that they realize that a lot of returning shows have problems they need to fix, specifically Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.
But he was THRILLED with LOST, he turned into a complete fanboy about the show and can't wait for the future of the show, especially now that they have an end date. As for the new shows, most of the "good" stuff is still in production and they didn't want to show clips until they are ready. So what we got was the stuff that ABC studios made mostly for cable. Here are the shows I watched:
Raising the Bar
A courtroom drama made for TNT starring Zach Morris. It was good. Nothing great.
Mark Paul Gosselar's character plays a troubled lawyer who lets emotion get in the way of business. It will work well if paired with The Closer, and will appeal to women. I was entertained, but we'll see where it goes. Has definite potential.
Project Gary
A multi-cam sitcom for CBS starring Jay Mohr.
Funny, really funny actually. Single dad trying to start a new life. Not really my cup of tea, but it was definitely filled with laughs.
Samurai Girl - made for ABC Family
Dumb. Don't waste your time. It's an Asian girl who's family is murdered on her wedding day and she doesn't know why. She soon learns of a conspiracy and learns the way of the samurai. I didn't like it.
The Middle Man - Made for ABC (i think, i don't have my notes)
It was ok. It's a cross between Chuck and Men in Black. Some very funny moments, crappy FX, and odd characters. There's potential here, but I'm not expecting much.
They showed something else, but I left because I was so bored.
TUESDAY - Warner Bros.
AWESOME day. There are some SERIOUSLY great shows here.
Fringe
Created by JJ Abrams for Fox. If you like LOST, you'll like Fringe. Imagine a show that mixes LOST, CSI, House, and 24. That's Fringe.
I'm not going to spoil it, but the Pilot was 82 minutes (2 hour broadcast). The title relates to "fringe science". All the crazy types of science that borders fact and fiction. This thing was glorious. There's crazy science, government consipiracy, Lance Reddick aka Lieutenant Daniels aka Abadon is playing a major role for you The Wire and LOST fans. It looks like he's the leader of the group within the government that disagrees with what the Defense Contractors are doing (who have higher security clearance than most of the FBI. He's subtle, but perfect.
Great acting (starring Joshua Jackson and many others). Not to be missed. I PROMISE you, this thing will be a LOST fans' wet dream once LOST is over.
Eleventh Hour
Another pseudo science type show. Basically, a guy has crazy scientific skills and needs a body guard because he's so valuable. The duo goes around the country solving crimes that can't be solve without his help.
I was entertained, but am curious how it will play amongst other "similar" shows.
Surviving the Filthy Rich - made for the CW.
This is 100% a companion piece to Gossip Girl. Entertaining, but I'm not in the demo, and neither are most of you. If you like Gossip Girl, you'll like this.
The Mentalist
Can't remember where this is going to air, but it was AWESOME. Stars the guy that was the lead in The Guardian. If you've seen the show Psych, this is basically a dramatized version of that. This guy can read anyone, look at any crime scene, and figure out how crimes happened. he knows the questions to ask to get people to confess without them realizing that they just confessed. Again, not going to spoil the plot, but this show will do very very well.
That was it from the WB today. Fox tomorrow.
I was talking to the head of programming for Turner today at lunch and he went to Fox yesterday and said that WB was MUCH better than Fox, but I'll be the judge of that tomorrow.

Nach den Trailern, die ich gesehen habe, habe ich nichts anderes erwartet. Steht auf meiner MUST-SEE-Liste ganz oben und ich werde die Serie 100%ig verfolgen und kann mir (vor allem auch nach dieser Bechreibung) vorstellen, dass sie (nach Lost) meine neue Nr. 1 werden kann.Fringe

Mir gefallen seine Beschreibungen auch
Bisher gibt es vier Serien, in die ich auf jeden Fall reinschauen werde. Von den oben genannten hatte ich anfangs noch mit The Mentalist geliebäugelt, aber inzwischen kann ich glaube ich doch mit Sicherheit sagen, dass das nichts für mich ist. Fringe sowieso nicht, sorry, kann mit Alias (leider), Lost und Felicity schon nichts anfangen.
My Own Worst Enemy (NBC)
Henry Spivey and Edward Albright suddenly become aware that they are the same person. One, a regular working dad living in the suburbs with a normal family. The other, an efficient and deadly spy. These two men, previously unaware of each other's existence due to a case of multiple personality disorder, now realize they share and have shared the same body for their entire lives. "Jekyll & Hyde meets Jason Bourne" – das stelle ich mir doch mal interessant vor! Bin wirklich sehr gespannt auf die Serie und Christian Slater und Saffron Burrows bin ich sowieso alles andere als abgeneigt.
Possible Side Effects (Showtime)
"Possible Side Effects" will have a two-pronged focus. In addition to exploring the dysfunctional family dynamics of the main characters, potential skein will examine the politics, research, bureaucracy, miraculous cures and greed that accompany the pharmaceutical industry's search for the next billion-dollar drug. (Variety.com)
Ich schaue mir grundsätzlich erstmal jeden Showtime-Piloten an, und dieser darf auf keinen Fall fehlen, besonders, weil die Serie mit Six Feet Under verglichen wird und ich wirklich nichts gegen eine weitere kaputte Familie einzuwenden habe!
True Blood (HBO)
Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called True Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have make their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar 'Merlotte's' which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own. (TV.com)

Zwar nicht sonderlich originell, klingt aber dennoch sehr süß und freue ich mich sehr drauf.

WEDNESDAY - Fox
Pretty weak showing. They've got six or seven other pilots in production, but we only watched two full pilots and a bunch of ten minute previews for a couple others.
Do Not Disturb
A multi cam sitcom set in a hotel starring Jerry O'Connell and Niecy Nash. It's kind of a day in the life of a hotel in New York.
I was underwhelmed and felt that the majority of the characters were FAR too cliche for my liking. There were some funny moments, but it wasn't that great. If 'Til Death remains on the air, I guess this will work too, but I thought it was pretty lame.
The Ex-List
I actually really liked this. It's a female skewing comedy in the vein of Samantha Who with a hint of My Name is Earl.
Basic premise is that a psychic tells a girl that if she can't locate one of her ex boyfriends and get engaged within 12 months, she won't get married for the rest of her life. So she writes a list of all her ex's and it looks like each episode will focus on locating a boyfriend and seeing if he's "the one". This is definitely for the ladies, but it's highly enjoyable and should do well.
Life on Mars
We would have seen an entire episode but in the last week, David E. Kelly has dropped out of the project and three new Executive Producers have joined on.
They are going to relocate the show from LA to New York, so we only saw an extended preview. Quite frankly, I was a little "meh" on it. It felt like Journeyman a little, but I liked Journeyman more. Haven't seen the British version, so I can't compare. It's not horrible looking by any means, but they didn't give us enough to really give a good idea.
Dollhouse
Joss Whedon is back. We saw ten minutes and it got me REALLY excited. Dushku looks hot as hell and the whole feel of the show is very cool and creepy. The whole cast fit perfectly (from what I saw).
This show has SERIOUS potential. Every Whedon fan will be happy.
That's it for me for now. Most nets are expecting second screenings in a few months once other shows finish production.
Sony doesn't invite US Cable to their screening (only international), and NBC and CBS/Paramount are doing screenings right now.
Overall, it was very evident that the strike had a major impact compared to last year. However, a lot of these shows have serious potential, and I'm sure that in the Fall, we'll all be very pleased. Oh, and expect a LOT of weird reality shows.

The Ex-List ist doch bei CBS und nicht bei Fox. *verwirrtbin* Ich bin eigentlich von dem Plot eher entsetzt und nach der Preview total abgeschreckt. Der Hauptcharakter wirkte richtig nervig und allein in der einen Minute wollte ich sie schon and die Wind klatschen. Bin nicht sicher ob ich mir das antun werde.

Oh Gott, nach dieser Beschreibung steigen meine Erwartungen an "Fringe" noch ums 20fache! Wenn wir hier eine Art "neues Lost" bekommen, bin ich eh schon komplett hin und weg. Interessant. Der Ausschnitt hat mich jetzt nicht wahnsinnig überzeugt, aber mal sehen, vielleicht gebe ich der Show doch eine Chance. Zumindest dem Piloten.The Mentalist

Ach, Mensch, hab den Thread voll verpasst, weil ich nicht da war, hab ihn gestern nur durch Zufall gefunden. Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich mich im letzten Jahr viel mehr mit den neuen Piloten beschäftigt und mich lange vorher auf einige neue Serien gefreut habe. Liegt vielleicht am Streik, keine Ahnung, aber irgendwie will mich vom Plot her bisher so gar nichts begeistern.
Was mich natürlich als großer "Office"-Fan interessiert ist das "The Office"-Spin Off, auch wenn ich mir nicht vorstellen kann, dass dabei auch nur annähernd etwas so Geniales wie das (US-)Original herauskommt. Ansonsten werde ich mir sicher die CW-Teenserien anschauen, da es zumindest teilweise mein Genre ist, auch wenn ich immer mehr merke, dass ich es nicht unbedingt brauche. Aber von "90210" und "Surviving the Filthy Rich" werde ich mir auf jeden Fall zumindest die Piloten ansehen. Sieht mir aber momentan etwas zu hochglanzmäßig und platt aus, ohne die Selbstironie von "O.C." oder das Guilty Pleasure-Gefühl von "Gossip Girl", aber von Trailern kann man sowieso meist wenig sagen...
"True Blood" werde ich mir natürlich ansehen, da ich die Bücher kenne, auf denen es basiert, und SFU ja so genial sein soll (Schande über mein Haupt, dass ich es immer noch nicht geschafft habe, mir das anzugucken...), allerdings habe ich über die Serie bisher fast nur Schlechtes gehört bzw. über das Drehbuch. Gucken werd ich's trotzdem erstmal...
Die restlichen, neuen Serien interessieren mich fast durchweg gar nicht, wenn man mal von "Fringe" absieht, auch "Dollhouse" werde ich mir ansehen, interessiert mich aber bisher nicht wirklich.
"Life on Mars" ist gar nicht mein Genre, mochte auch schon "Journeyman" nicht so wirklich und, wenn das hier schwächer ist, macht es für mich keinen Sinn einzuschalten. Die Trailer zu "Worst Week" und "Project Gary" fand ich so unlustig, dass sie absolut abschreckend waren. "The Mentalist" und "Eleventh Hour" sind doch wieder solche Procedurals, die mich sowieso nicht jucken. "The Ex List" klingt grauenhaft, werde aber reinschauen. Dann bleiben noch die ganzen neuen NBC-Serien. "My Own Worst Enemy" klingt absolut trashig bisher in meinen Augen, "Knight Rider" geht gar nicht. Beim Rest habe ich noch nicht so wirklich eine Ahnung, worum es geht, werde bei Bedarf also reinschauen.
Was mich an neuen Serien, die noch in diesem Sommer rauskommen, interessiert, wäre hauptsächlich "Generation Kill" (fand die Trailer ansprechend und außerdem soll Lee Tergesen da eine Rolle spielen und den liebe ich seit "Oz" einfach ). "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" werde ich mir auch ansehen. Wüsste generell gerne mal, was an Kabel- und HBO-Serien noch so anläuft, da findet man irgendwie keine wirkliche Übersicht...
Ansonsten bin ich eigentlich recht zufrieden, dass fast alle "meine" Serien trotz teils durchschnittlicher Quoten verlängert wurden, deshalb brauche ich eigentlich kaum neue Serien, solange ich "Chuck", "The Office", "How I Met Your Mother", "Scrubs", "30 Rock", "Gossip Girl", "Friday Night Lights" und ja, ich gebe es zu: "The Big Bang Theory" weiterhin gucken kann. Würde mich allerdings freuen, wenn mich auch endlich mal wieder ein Drama so richtig begeistern könnte, momentan scheine ich ja auf Grund meiner Liste "all about sitcoms" zu sein
Sowas wie "Oz" wäre schön, da würde mein Herz aufgehen, vermisse die Serie jetzt schon, obwohl ich erst gestern die letzte Folge gesehen habe 
Was mich natürlich als großer "Office"-Fan interessiert ist das "The Office"-Spin Off, auch wenn ich mir nicht vorstellen kann, dass dabei auch nur annähernd etwas so Geniales wie das (US-)Original herauskommt. Ansonsten werde ich mir sicher die CW-Teenserien anschauen, da es zumindest teilweise mein Genre ist, auch wenn ich immer mehr merke, dass ich es nicht unbedingt brauche. Aber von "90210" und "Surviving the Filthy Rich" werde ich mir auf jeden Fall zumindest die Piloten ansehen. Sieht mir aber momentan etwas zu hochglanzmäßig und platt aus, ohne die Selbstironie von "O.C." oder das Guilty Pleasure-Gefühl von "Gossip Girl", aber von Trailern kann man sowieso meist wenig sagen...
"True Blood" werde ich mir natürlich ansehen, da ich die Bücher kenne, auf denen es basiert, und SFU ja so genial sein soll (Schande über mein Haupt, dass ich es immer noch nicht geschafft habe, mir das anzugucken...), allerdings habe ich über die Serie bisher fast nur Schlechtes gehört bzw. über das Drehbuch. Gucken werd ich's trotzdem erstmal...
Die restlichen, neuen Serien interessieren mich fast durchweg gar nicht, wenn man mal von "Fringe" absieht, auch "Dollhouse" werde ich mir ansehen, interessiert mich aber bisher nicht wirklich.
"Life on Mars" ist gar nicht mein Genre, mochte auch schon "Journeyman" nicht so wirklich und, wenn das hier schwächer ist, macht es für mich keinen Sinn einzuschalten. Die Trailer zu "Worst Week" und "Project Gary" fand ich so unlustig, dass sie absolut abschreckend waren. "The Mentalist" und "Eleventh Hour" sind doch wieder solche Procedurals, die mich sowieso nicht jucken. "The Ex List" klingt grauenhaft, werde aber reinschauen. Jep, "Generation Kill" ist absolute Pflicht. "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" sehe ich mir evtl. an, bin da aber noch nicht sicher. Von den sonstigen Kabelserien werde ich definitiv mal in "Sons of Anarchy" und "The United States of Tara" reinschauen. Nicht nur, dass es da keine guten Übersichten gibt, selbst die (Kabel-)Sender haben teilweise noch nicht einmal richtig Informationen dazu. Sehr viel mehr als das was wir jetzt zusammengetragen haben wird's aber wohl auch nicht geben. Von AMC gibt es erstmal anscheinend nichts Neues, zumindest kann ich auf deren Page nichts finden. Mit "Breaking Bad" und "Mad Men" aber gleich zwei hervorragende "AMC Originals" zu haben ist bei einem Sender in der Größenordnung ja auch schon was.
"Fringe" und "Dollhouse" sind auch Pflicht, auch wenn mich "Dollhouse" erst noch richtig überzeugen muss. Der Trailer dazu war ja alles andere als interessant. Von "Knight Rider (2008)" erwarte ich so gar nichts außer netten Trash (bei "Samurai Girl" übrigens dasselbe). Wenn man sich da wenigstens ein wenig Mühe gibt, werde ich wohl auch dort am Ball bleiben.
Mehr fällt mir auf die Schnelle nicht ein. Es wird aber evtl. noch die eine oder andere Serie hinzukommen.

Ist das Secret Diary of a Call Girl von dem ihr da redet denn eine Adaption der britischen Serie, oder senden sie dieselbe Serie jetzt dann eben erst in Amerika?

Dieselbe. Showtime hat die nur eingekauft und sendet sie in den USA, ähnlich wie HBO mit "Extras". Ursprünglich war wohl 'ne Adaption geplant, nachdem das Original dann aber wohl so fantastisch sei laut SHO-Chef, habe man davon abgesehen.

Nachdem ich mittlerweile einige Piloten gesehen habe, muss ich sagen, dass ich bisher etwas "underwhelmed" bin. Wirklich gefallen haben mir vielleicht zwei, drei Piloten, davon wird "Pretty/Handsome" offensichtlich nie gesendet werden. Auch ganz nett fand ich "Leverage" von TNT. Ansonsten fand ich überraschenderweise noch "The Mentalist" relativ gut. Ganz furchtbar waren für mich "East Bound and Down", "Do Not Disturb" und "True Blood", von dem ich mir einfach was anderes erwartet habe. Okay waren "Life on Mars" und "Raising the Bar", die werde ich aber definitiv nicht weiterschauen.
Den oben zitierten Beschreibungen kann ich mich bei den von mir bereits gesehenen Piloten jedenfalls nur anschließen...

"True Blood" fand ich eigentlich ganz okay (man merkt, wie mein Urteil sich mit der Zeit etwas verschlechtert hat? 
), bin da aber mittlerweile auch etwas skeptisch. "Pretty/Handsome" war zumindest schon allein von der Idee her interessant und ich hätte gern ein paar mehr Folgen gesehen. Der Pilot ging dann ja doch recht plakativ mit dem Thema Transsexualität/Crossdressing um und ich hätte mir da mit weiteren Episoden mehr Tiefgang versprochen. "The Mentalist" fand ich eigentlich ziemlich langweilig. Ist halt 'ne typische Crimeserie, die man sich abends auf VOX mal ansehen kann, wenn nichts besseres kommt, definitiv aber nicht muss. "Do Not Disturb" war allerdings extrem schlecht, "East Bound and Down" ebenso, wobei ich insbesondere bei letzterem auf jeden Fall mehr erwartet habe. An "Leverage" hatte ich gegen Ende meinen Spaß, bin da nun aber auch nicht so angetan als dass ich es weiter verfolgen müsste. "Raising The Bar" habe ich mir nur wegen des Casts angesehen und war dann recht enttäuscht ob der billigen Kopie einer jeden Anwaltsserie. Letzten Endes war ich also bisher von keinem Piloten sonderlich überzeugt (außer von dem von "Generation Kill" natürlich), nachdem selbst "Fringe" ein wenig hinter den Erwartungen blieb. In "Life On Mars" sehe ich evtl. mal rein, wenn der neue Pilot mit einigen interessanten Caständerungen anläuft. "The Cleaner" klingt schon so schlecht und wurde bisher auch nicht wirklich gut aufgenommen, so dass ich überhaupt kein Interesse an der ersten Folge habe.
